Heavy snow in Pennsylvania kept Penn State coach Joe Paterno from making a campus visit to Pasco High on Tuesday, but it shouldn't keep Pirates receiver Johnny Peyton from traveling north today for a recruiting trip.
The 6-foot-5 senior is expected to get a personal visit from West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez today, then, weather permitting, will leave at noon for an official visit to Penn State, where an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow were expected to fall Tuesday night.
Cold weather played a role in Peyton's decision to back off on an early commitment to Pittsburgh, so it's not the best news for the Nittany Lions that today's high in State College is 27 degrees.
Peyton is due to leave Penn State on Friday and fly to Morgantown, W.Va., where he makes his final official visit over the weekend. Snow is forecasted there as well, with a high in the low 20s expected Saturday.
Peyton returns home Sunday and has two days, with no contact from any colleges, to thaw out and make his decision before national signing day on Feb. 4.
In addition to Penn State, Pittsburgh and West Virginia, he's considering Miami, which offered him a scholarship last week, and South Florida, which had coaches at Pasco High for three hours Tuesday.
