The mother of a 1-month-old girl was charged Wednesday with abusing the child, including a bite that left a mark, the Sheriff's Office said.
Nicole Rocca, 17, of 2727 W Fletcher Ave. was charged with aggravated child abuse after forensic dentists determined she was the probable source of the bite mark.
The child was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital on Oct. 27 with life-threatening injuries including internal bleeding, severe bruising, bone fractures and a bite mark.
The father of the baby, Harrison Bradley Margolis, 18, was arrested on a charge of aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm in the case on Oct. 31.
Charges against him remain in effect, a sheriff's spokesman said.
Deputies: Trio targeted women in SUVs for thefts
BRANDON _ Sheriff's deputies have arrested three people accused of running a theft ring that targeted women with sport utility vehicles in the Brandon area over the past month.
On Tuesday, deputies arrested Frederick Williams, 41, and Melanie Willette, 26, who both list their address as 1610 State Road 60 E Lot 3, and Helen Cummings, 31, of 13902 15th St. N.
Deputies say the theft ring waited at gas stations in Brandon and Valrico for women driving SUVs.
While the women paid for gas, or even as they pumped gas, someone reached in windows or opened passenger doors to steal wallets, cash, credit cards and checks from at least seven vehicles between Jan. 1 and Jan. 19.
Many of the victims didn't even know they were robbed, a sheriff's spokesman said.
The suspects are charged with burglary and forgery in connection with the use of checks and credit cards.
A total of $1,200 in stolen property has been recovered.
