The funeral for one of four Marines killed in a helicopter crash at Camp Pendleton in California last week is set for 11 a.m. EST Thursday in Jenkins.
Cpl. Joshua D. Harris, 21, a native of Jenkins, died last Thursday when a UH-1 Huey crashed during a training flight at the sprawling Marine base north of San Diego, Calif.
Harris lived in Jenkins most of his life. His paternal grandfather, Ed Harris, still lives in the small coal town in Letcher County.
Survivors include his parents, Charles and Debra Powers Harris of New Port Richey, along with a sister and a brother.
The Marines identified the other victims as Capt. Adam E. Miller, 29, of Midlothian, Ill.; 1st Lt. Michael S. Lawlor, 26, of Timonium, Md.; and Staff Sgt. Lori Anne Privette, 27, of Zebulon, N.C.
Harris, who returned to California in October, was a helicopter crew chief during the Iraq war, scouting the scene and relaying information to the pilot, his father said.
