Ask, and it shall be given

St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church distributes food baskets from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays. The food is donated by Publix and Largo High School, and baskets include bread, milk and frozen food. The Rev. B.L. Dyer said food is given to anyone who asks. "If President Bush needed a basket, we would give him one, too."

Lutherine Russell, right, prepares a food basket for Vance Smith, left, on Tuesday at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church on Railroad Avenue in Ridgecrest. Russell has worked as a volunteer for the church's food program since it began in 2001.

With his dog Cheetah by his side, Howard Carrel of Largo pulls away from the church after receiving a food basket Tuesday. "I appreciate them sharing with me and the community," Carrel said.
