CARES center presents quilt show

CARES Elfers Center, 4136 Barker Drive, Elfers, will present its third annual Quilt Show and Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the center.

Ann Marrotta's Quilting Class at Elfers is in charge of the event.

Quilts to be displayed include some that have been featured in national quilt magazines.

Professional quilters using special fabrics will show their quilts as well as many contemporary style quilts by local quilters. Antique quilts will also be on exhibit.

Presentations will be made by representatives from two local fabric stores.

Many handmade items including lap robes, place mats, chair cushions and other items will be for sale.

The admission charge of $5 includes lunch. Proceeds will benefit the CARES Elfers Center to help defray expenses for many activities open to all adults.

School hosts performance about Marie Curie's life

The Language Academy Charter School, located at Westminster Presbyterian Church, is sponsoring four performances by storyteller Susan Frontczak presenting, "MANYA: the Life of Marie Curie."

The first performance will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Westminster Church, U.S. 19, New Port Richey.

For two decades, Frontczak has made history and science come alive in her presentation of Curie, who won two Nobel Prizes and refused to patent the technology of radium therapy, making it available to all for cancer treatment.

Cost of the two-hour performance is $8 for adults and $5 for children.

Additional performances, all in New Port Richey, are set at 2 p.m. Feb. 7 at Calvary Chapel Worship Center; at 3 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Presbyterian Church of Seven Springs and at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at the PHCC Auditorium. Tickets for all performances are available by calling 847-9300.
