Choir rounds out for trip to Prague

(ran EO edition)

East Lake High School Choral Director Robert J. Knabel wears many hats.

Besides teaching at the high school, he's the music director at Heritage United Methodist Church and he directs the International Masterworks Chorus of Tampa Bay.

The masterworks chorus has been invited to join other singers in performing the Requiem by Antonin Dvorak on June 19, 2004, in Prague, the Czech Republic. The event marks the centennial of the Czech composer's death.

Knabel is looking for a few good voices to round out the choir for the trip. "Clappers," often nonsinging spouses or relatives of singers, are also welcome.

"We would like to invite singers from the Pinellas County area to come with us," Knabel said, "if they are willing to learn a very difficult work and pay their own way."

Knabel said the group will do some sightseeing and probably will go to Poland as well.

The cost is $2,800 and participants should be of high school age or older.

The group is meeting to discuss the trip at 3 p.m. Feb. 8 at Heritage United Methodist Church, on the southwest corner of State Road 580 and Landmark Drive.
