Citrus had two objectives at Thursday's Gulf Coast Athletic Conference girls meet:

1. Win the title.

2. Gain some revenge.

The Hurricanes did both, claiming the championship in impressive fashion. Citrus finished with 75 points, 21 better than second-place Crystal River and 44 ahead of third-place Lecanto. Nature Coast Tech was fourth, followed by Central, Hernando and Springstead.

The Hurricanes also won titles in 2003 and '02.

Citrus, though, lost to Crystal River in the county meet two weeks ago.

"They needed this to get a positive attitude for state," Hurricanes coach Doug Patton said. "And it got a little personal."

Citrus wins came from Katie Bombley (129), Norma Jean Carlile (139), Ashley Rawls (154), Maggie Lanigan (169) and Stephanie Bass (183). All five had previously qualified for Saturday's state meet in DeLand.

Other county winners were: Sara Lavertu of Lecanto (199); Tiffani Machado (101), Racheal Reed (110) and Breanna Driver (unlimited) of Crystal River.
