Man stabbed in fight at convenience store

An altercation at a Childs Park area convenience store Sunday afternoon drove a man to stab another with a 3-inch knife, St. Petersburg police said.

Bruce E. Walker, 30, was in an argument with another man shortly before 4 p.m. inside the Shadyside Fresh Meat and Grocery, at 42nd Street and 15th Avenue S, when he stabbed the man once in his left chest with a folding knife, Sgt. Joe Collins said.

The victim, whose name was not released Sunday by police, ran to his nearby home. He was later taken to Bayfront Medical Center. Collins said he did know the extent of the stab wound and could not comment on the victim's condition.

Clerks locked the assailant inside the store while they waited for police. Collins said Walker will be charged with aggravated battery.
