OBITUARIES

BURKE, EDWARD P., 90, of Inverness, died Saturday (Jan. 31, 2004) in Inverness. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he came here in 1975 from Beachwood, N.J. He was retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles for the State of New Jersey and a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and Knights of Columbus Council 6391 and was a former Grand Knight. Survivors include a step-son, John Leigh, Boaz, Ala.; a step-daughter, Joyce Ledoux, Seabrook, Texas; a sister, Anna Rutter, Vero Beach; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his caretaker of five years, Joan Emerson, Inverness. HAND, ELIZABETH T., 90, of Hernando, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Friday (Jan. 30, 2004) at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she came here in 1987 from St. Petersburg. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Survivors include a son, Martin, Walden, N.Y.; a daughter, Patricia Johnson, Hernando; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Chas. E. SAMP, MARGARET M. "PEGGY,' 73, of Spring Hill, died Saturday (Jan. 31, 2004) at Brooksville Regional Hospital. She was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Richard; two daughters, Linda Finnan and Laura Scott, and a son, David, all of Spring Hill; a sister Dorothy Kramer, Illinois; and four grandchildren. TEVEIT, BETTY JEAN, 77, of Brooksville, died Saturday (Jan. 31, 2004) at home. Born in Muskegon, Mich., she came here 16 years ago from Canton, Ill. She was a retired licensed practical nurse and had worked for Hurley Medical Center, Flint, Mich., and a member of Brooksville Wesleyan Church. She was a graduate of Owosso Bible College and active in the Ladies Missionary Society for several churches. Survivors include her husband, Emerson; two sons, Kenneth, Flushing, Mich., and Brenton, Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Janice VanTine, Canton; a brother, Harold Doll, Flint; seven grandchildren;; and two great-grandchildren.
