Enjoy a bounty of the arts this week

(ran East Lake & Oldsmar edition)

This is a great week in Oldsmar for showing off your talents or for appreciating the talents of others.

The Oldsmar Cultural Arts Centre, 402 St. Petersburg Drive E, will have auditions for a talent show from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Performers as young as 12 will be chosen to entertain on the evening of Nov. 5.

Also, Oldsmar's annual Children's Art Exhibit kicks off with a public reception at 6 p.m. Tuesday. More than 500 works of art by Oldsmar and Forest Lakes elementary students are hanging in City Hall, 100 State St. W. The exhibit continues through Oct. 27. Students portray themselves, animals, flowers, architecture, the circus and more in media including paper, beans, yarn and quilts.

"They've done a great job," said arts coordinator Chris Steiner. "I'm so impressed."

Then on Friday, Alan Trosino presents the music of Frank Sinatra at 7 p.m. at the Oldsmar Cultural Arts Centre. Admission is free.

Call Steiner at (813) 749-1253.

If you have news or photos about Oldsmar schools, churches, businesses, neighborhood groups, community organizations or people, call Theresa Blackwell at (727) 771-4305, fax it to her at (727) 771-4301, e-mail or mail material to her at the North Pinellas Times, 34342 U.S. 19 N, Palm Harbor, FL 34684.

SURFERS' PARADISE: Scott Pantle, left, and Tom Bohannon, both of Oldsmar, walk along North Clearwater Beach on Wednesday afternoon after surfing. Bohannon was thrilled about the great surfing weather: "I love it; I wish it was like this all the time," he said.
