A Homosassa man was arrested after authorities say he refused to stop petting a police dog and cooperate with police while officers searched a truck for drugs.
Scott W. Hicks, 23, of Homosassa was arrested early Saturday on charges of assault or battery of a law enforcement officer and obstructing an officer without violence, according to a Citrus County Sheriff's Office report. According to a police report, Hicks was a passenger in a truck driving on a dirt road off Turkey Oak Drive, west of Bay Avenue. An officer pulled over the truck at 11:47 p.m. Friday night and searched the car for narcotics. While the officer searched the truck with a dog, Hicks walked up to it. He ignored the officer's warnings not to touch the dog and petted its face and head, police said. The officer said he told him to stop two more times. When Hicks continued to pet the dog, the officer arrested him.
Hicks was taken to the Citrus County Jail. On the way to the jail, he urinated in the back of the police car, according to the report. The officers said they stopped the car and told him to get out, but he refused and they had to force him. His bail was set at $5,500. Police found no narcotics in the truck.
