Best-selling author cancels library date, to reschedule

Susan Gebelein, author of the best-selling Successful Manager's Handbook has canceled an appearance Thursday at the Clearwater Main Library because of scheduling conflicts due to the recent hurricanes, library officials said.

The appearance will be rescheduled, though a new date has not been announced. The Successful Manager's Handbook contains research-based suggestions to improve performance, plus a detailed section on recommended books, seminars and Web sites.

City plans reclaimed water shut off due to main work

CLEARWATER _ The reclaimed water system on Clearwater Beach and in the Island Estates and Harbor Oaks neighborhoods will be shut off from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday because of construction along Myrtle Avenue. A portion of the water main that supplies reclaimed water to the affected areas is being modified.

Emergency response team seeking more volunteers

DUNEDIN _ The Dunedin Volunteer Emergency Response Team is seeking volunteers to assist existing city services in the wake of a disaster.

The city of Dunedin is extremely susceptible to hurricanes, tornadoes and flooding, necessitating proper predisaster education and training of citizen volunteers. No member will be required to perform any duties or tasks they are not trained in or comfortable with.

Volunteering is open to all city residents, businesses and community groups. The team meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at City Hall, 542 Main St. The next two meetings will be Oct. 14, when the topic will be electrical safety issues, and Nov. 11, when the topic will be terrorism and response.
