Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission crews searched Tuesday for two elderly sisters thought to be missing in the Gulf of Mexico.
Olies Edmonds-Nash, 81, and Ivy Edmonds-Hutchinson, 80, both of Cross City, were last seen Sunday on Butler Island, a private island 3 miles from Horseshoe Beach in Dixie County, the Coast Guard said in a news release.
The sisters reportedly stayed on the island Sunday night. They had camping gear on their rowboat but no boating safety gear.
They were reported overdue back on the mainland by a relative around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Coast Guard. A Jayhawk helicopter and a C-130 airplane from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater were searching for the women, as were boats from Coast Guard Station Yankeetown and the conservation commission.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the Coast Guard 7th District Command Center at (305) 415-6800.
