Lightning exec fined for DUI

Bill Barber, the Lightning's director of player personnel, was fined the minimum $600 and had his driver's license suspended for a year on an impaired driving conviction.

Barber, 52, was stopped in Callander, Ontario, on May 22. No other information was available.

Barber, a Hockey Hall of Fame member, took the Stanley Cup to his hometown last month.

OVERSEAS EXODUS: European hockey has taken on an NHL look.

With an NHL lockout in place, more than 150 players have signed to play in European leagues, including Markus Naslund with Modo (Sweden), Jaromir Jagr with Kladmo (Czech Republic) and Ilya Kovalchuk with AK Bars Kazan (Russia).

WHAT THE LIGHTNING WOULD BE DOING: Seventh day of training camp.

THE LATEST: The National Hockey League is in the process of firing 100 employees this week, nearly 50 percent of its staff. That appears to be a sure sign that this will not be a short lockout.
