United School Employees of Pasco will be the hosts of a public meeting tonight in coordination with the "National Mobilization for Great Public Schools," a get-out-the-vote campaign to highlight challenges facing public education.
Teachers, school employees and parents and others are invited to attend the two-hour event, which begins at 6 p.m. at the Bourbon Street Concert Club, 4331 U.S. 19 in New Port Richey. Billed as a "house party," attendees will view a video, hear speakers and mingle, said USEP President Lynn Webb.
The campaign is being spearheaded by the National Education Association, MoveOn.org, Campaign for America's Future, Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), the NAACP and the U.S. Hispanic Leadership.
Issues of interest include child health care, outdated schools, classroom overcrowding and the federal No Child Left Behind law.
