Security boosted at U.S. Consulate in Pakistan

Police increased security outside the U.S. Consulate in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi on Tuesday after receiving a tip that female suicide bombers might target it, the deputy police chief said.

Police said they had no specific information about the women who might target the consulate, which was the scene of a car bomb attack in June 2002 that left 14 Pakistanis dead.

Deputy city police chief Fayyaz Leghari told the Associated Press that police have deployed five or six female officers outside the consulate to search any women who visit. He gave no details about the tip or where it came from.
