Sesame Street's newest production, Sesame Street Live Out of This World, plays the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center today through Sunday with a cast of 17, including Elmo, Oscar, Big Bird, Bert, Ernie, Cookie Monster and Zoe.
"The concept for this production is two visitors come from Mars to learn about Earthlings," said Jeff Mensch, company manager. The 90-minute show features some TV segments on a video backdrop, and some from programs aired in other countries, such as Mexico's Plaza Sesamo. "The theme of the show is that though Earthlings are different, we really are all the same," he said.
Mensch said the show has traditional Sesame Street elements _ such as a letter and number of the day _ amid the flashy choreography, lights and effects.
Shows are at 7 p.m. today, 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12.50 to $20.50. Lap tickets are available for $5 for children younger than 1.
Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center is at 1010 N MacInnes Place, Tampa. (813) 229-7827.
