Two men were killed in a car crash on County Road 486 Wednesday afternoon.
The men, occupants of a late-model Ford Crown Victoria, were hit broadside on the passenger's side by a black Toyota pickup.
The men in the Ford were passing cars at a curve marked by a double yellow line near the Brentwood subdivision entrance when the crash occurred at about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday.
According to Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Lee Frye, the Ford was westbound on CR 486 and entered the eastbound lane to pass.
The driver apparently lost control and the car went into a skid and began to spin. It was hit by the Toyota pickup, which was traveling east on CR 486. The impact of the crash was violent. The passenger's side of the Ford was completely smashed in, and the front end of the pickup also was heavily damaged.
The pickup's driver was injured and airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, according to the FHP. His identity was not released by the FHP pending notification of family members.
The identities of the two dead men also were being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
CR 486 was closed to traffic between Forest Ridge Boulevard and the Brentwood entrance for several hours while emergency crews cleared the area and FHP troopers conducted their investigation.
