Appearance by Lightning coach slated for benefit

John Tortorella, head coach of Stanley Cup Champions the Tampa Bay Lightning, will make a special appearance at the Child Abuse Council's Second Annual Champions for Children Breakfast.

Tortorella along with emcee Gayle Sierens, news anchor for WFLA-Ch. 8, host the fundraising event from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Tuesday at Raymond James Stadium-Club Level.

Sponsored by more than 60 local businesses and individuals, the breakfast raises money for Child Abuse Council programs to help prevent, stop and treat the problems of child abuse and neglect in Hillsborough County.

Attendance is free, but donations are critical to the success of the event. Last year's breakfast raised almost $200,000 in donations, and the council is hoping to exceed this amount this year.
