Troopers seek identity of collision victim
LECANTO _ Law officers are still trying to determine the identity of one of the people killed in a traffic collision Wednesday afternoon on County Road 486. Two men riding in a late-model Ford Crown Victoria were struck on the passenger's side by a black Toyota pickup. The Crown Victoria was passing cars at a curve marked by a double-yellow line near the Brentwood subdivision when the collision occurred, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Donald J. Frey, 45, of 5790 W Holiday St., Homosassa, was the driver of the Crown Victoria, the patrol said. Frey died in the collision. The driver of the pickup was Gary A. Joyce, 52, of 5529 S Gary Oak Ter., Lecanto. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital. The identity of the passenger in Frey's vehicle remains a mystery, said Trooper Larry Coggins. The man carried no ID. The man was a white male in his late 30s or early 40s. He was 6 feet tall and had curly brown hair. Anyone with information about the man's identity can contact Cpl.
