A Hillsborough sheriff's deputy responding to a home burglary early Thursday arrested the man who lives there after allegedly finding $2,000 worth of marijuana and a 9mm gun in the residence, according to a Sheriff's Office report.
Deputy Brian Campagnano went to 12905 Veronica Ave. about 6:15 a.m. in response to an alarm. He arrived to find the rear glass door broken and open.
Campagnano searched inside for suspects and found two pounds of marijuana, according to the Sheriff's Office. Narcotics investigators got a search warrant for the residence and found $7,500 in cash and a 9mm gun.
While investigators were searching the house, David G. Crockett, 41, came home. He was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to jail records.
State criminal records show Crockett was placed on two years' probation last year after he was convicted in Pinellas County of marijuana possession and fleeing from a police officer. For the charges filed in Hillsborough on Thursday, he is being held in the county jail on $10,000 bail.
