Florida International's home opener against Western Kentucky on Saturday has been postponed _ the second home game the Golden Panthers have had called off because of hurricane concerns.
Western Kentucky officials decided Thursday not to travel to South Florida because of the likelihood Hurricane Jeanne may hit the east coast this weekend.
"Western Kentucky felt it was in the best interest of their student-athletes not to travel into South Florida this weekend," FIU athletic director Rick Mello said.
The Golden Panthers' Sept. 2 opener against Jacksonville was canceled because of Hurricane Frances. FIU has played only one game so far, a victory two weeks ago at Youngstown State.
Mello said FIU would aim to reschedule the game, but a makeup date would involve both schools moving other games. FIU's first home game is now scheduled to be Oct. 2 against Louisiana-Lafayette.
