With the end to warm weather about to change itineraries along the coast of Alaska and Europe, dozens of cruise ships will soon be headed to their winter home ports in Florida and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The warm Caribbean basin and the waters around the Bahamas then become the busiest region for cruise ships until spring returns.

The following cruise lines will sail from Florida or San Juan through April. Check the accompanying chart for quick references to ports of call. For detailed information, contact the cruise lines or a travel agent.

A note of advice: Itineraries can change on short notice, usually because of weather. The current hurricane season already has caused a number of these alterations, which include substituting some ports for those damaged by the storms. The hurricane season officially lasts through November, and though today's ships can move much faster than hurricanes can advance, ship captains will never chance being caught in port as a major storm approaches.
