BRINGING BRONSON HOME

One in a series of regular reports on the progress of Boston Red Sox pitcher and Hernando graduate Bronson Arroyo:

RECENT OUTINGS: Arroyo left last Wednesday's game against Baltimore trailing 5-4 after allowing five earned runs in 5 innings, but the Red Sox rallied to win 7-6 in 12. Arroyo struck out seven and walked two in the no-decision.

PLAYOFF CHASE: The Red Sox (93-62) trailed the Yankees by 3{ games in the American League East and led the Angels by six games in the wild-card race entering Monday's game at Tampa Bay, which Arroyo was scheduled to start. Through Sunday, the Red Sox magic number for a playoff berth was 2.

STAT OF THE WEEK: Through Wednesday, Arroyo had gone seven starts without a loss _ his longest unbeaten streak of the year. Between April 19 and May 21, Arroyo made seven appearances without a loss, but two were in relief.

NOTABLE: Boston used seven more pitchers after Arroyo in the victory over the Orioles.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: "It almost seems inevitable (an American League Championship Series rematch) if we take care of business and they take care of business," outfielder Dave Roberts said after the Red Sox took two of three games from the Yankees over the weekend.
