Karen White is the regional chancellor for the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. She also is a world-class violinist.
White will perform on the violin at Town & Gown's first event of the year, Musical Conversations, Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and will be held at the Palladium Theatre at 253 5th Ave. N.
White has appeared in more than 200 concerto, solo and chamber music recitals. She has worked with major artists, including virtuoso violinist Itzhak Perlman. Her favorite compositions include Sergey (Sergeyevich) Prokofiev's violin concertos.
When it came time to pick a profession, music won and White majored in music education at the University of Arkansas. She then pursued a master's degree and a doctorate in violin performance at the University of Arizona.
Also performing at Wednesday's concert are soprano Kay Lowe and pianist James Johnson.
