City officials issued a precautionary boil water advisory early Monday afternoon as a result of a water main break. The order affects residents and businesses on Tarpon Avenue from Grosse Avenue to Japonica Avenue and on Court Street from U.S. 19 to Jasmine Avenue. Any water used for drinking or cooking should be heated to a full roiling boil for at least a minute, officials said. Bottled water also can be used. Businesses also should clean and disinfect their ice machines and water lines before serving the public. Businesses affected include KFC, Hardee's, Wendy's, Checkers, the Mobil and Shell gas stations, the Kmart shopping plaza, Astro Skate, Tarpon Lanes and the Upper Pinellas Association for Retarded Citizens' facility. City officials used their Reverse 911 system and distributed door hangers to notify affected properties.
