Thieves took no pity on a Zephyrhills man left without power by Hurricane Jeanne. Instead, they took his generator.
Pasco sheriff's deputies reported that Robert Simpson, 51, was running a generator at his Salem Avenue home early Tuesday to power a fan so he could sleep while his electricity was out. Simpson told investigators his wife woke him about 4:15 a.m. to tell him the fan had gone off.
When he went out on his front porch to check the generator, it was missing.
According to the Sheriff's Office, a witness said he saw a dark-colored van drive past Simpson's home, then turn around and turn off the headlights. Two men crept to the front porch, snatched the generator and, while it was still running, dashed back to the van and drove off with it.
The van was a 1980s model with dual back doors.
