Workers trained on defibrillators

County workers and volunteers learned to use newly purchased defibrillators Wednesday in three sessions held at the Fire Training Center. The defibrillators, the electronic medical devices used to reset the heart's rhythm, are funded by a state grant and will be distributed to the courthouse, Citrus County Sheriff's Office, public swimming pools and to emergency personnel. The county already had automatic defibrillators, but they were a mixture of brands from several manufactures, making it difficult to get new parts and to train people on all the different varieties, said Department of Public Safety spokesman John J. Kabacinski.

"It's a help in providing aid to those that need it if everybody knows that same machine," Kabacinski said.
