LIFE AFTER JEANNE

IN THE DARK: As of Thursday evening, 1,493 Pasco customers still lacked electricity, including 613 Progress Energy customers, 480 customers of Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative and about 400 TECO customers.

NEED WATER OR ICE? The American Red Cross is roving the county to provide assistance. The two host shelters that were set up by the American Red Cross and Pasco County are now closed. However, homeowners who experienced flooding and/or wind damage and still need assistance can call the Red Cross at 1-866-GET INFO, or FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA.

NEED A SHOWER? Showers are available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at these locations:

Veterans Memorial Park at 14333 Hicks Road in Hudson.

Land O'Lakes Recreation Center at 3032 Collier Parkway in Land O'Lakes.

NEED OTHER HELP? Call the United Way of Pasco helpline at (727) 845-4357 in west Pasco or toll-free 1-877-828-8929 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WANT TO HELP? Skilled volunteers are needed to clean up debris for homeowners who can't do it themselves. Call the county's volunteer line at (727) 847-8955 to lend a hand.

GOT DEBRIS? County crews will collect trees and brush that is cut into 4-foot sections and stacked alongside _ but not in _ the roadway. There is no need to call for pickup; but please be patient, as it will take weeks for crews to cover the entire county.

Residents also may haul their yard debris to the county's landfills from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The county is waiving tipping fees for residents with storm-related debris through Oct. 13, however the fees are not waived for contractors. The landfills are:

East Pasco landfill off Auton Road, east of Dade City.

West Pasco landfill on Hays Road, next to the Resource Recovery Facility in Shady Hills.

Crews also will provide a one-time pickup of flood-damaged items, such as soaked carpet and ruined furniture. Once residents clear all of those items out of their homes, call (727) 847-8110 to arrange pickup.

GOT DAMAGE? Call the county's citizen services hotline at (727) 847-8110 or 800-368-2411 to report flooding or other damage. Residents seeking federal assistance may call the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at 1-800-621-3362.

SAND AND SANDBAGS: Are available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

Pasco County Fire Station No. 10, 7912 Rhodes Road in Hudson.

Veterans Memorial Park at 14333 Hicks Road in Hudson.

Pasco County Public Works Building at 7536 State St. (at West Pasco Government Center) in New Port Richey.

Pasco County Fire Station No. 17, 4251 Seven Springs Blvd. in Holiday.

Land O'Lakes Recreation Center at 3032 Collier Parkway.

Pasco County Fire Station No. 16 at 34335 Chancey Road in Zephyrhills.

Zephyrhills Fire Department at 38410 Sixth Ave.

Pasco County Fire Station No. 24 (old Dade City station) at 14317 Fourth St. in Dade City.

CUE THE KETTLE: Residents who lost power and water pressure during the storm should bring their water to a rolling boil for at least a minute before using it for drinking or cooking. A boil water notice has been issued for the following communities: Gulf Harbors and all Lindrick utilities customers; Hillcrest; Trilby; Lacoochee; Forest Hills; Shady Oaks; Lake Jovita; Pine Breeze; Pasadena Shores; San Antonio; Dixie Groves, Colonial Manor and Virginia City in New Port Richey; customers on Anclote Utilities and Westwood Utilities in Holiday; Sunburst RV Park in Hudson; Encore Tampa North RV Park in Lutz.

CHECK THE WATER: The health department urges flooded residents to test their well water before using it. Test kits are available weekdays for $7 from the Pasco County Environmental Laboratory, 7530 Little Road in New Port Richey.

OPEN AND SHUT: All county and city government offices are open, along with the courthouses. All county libraries are open except for the county's Library Support Services office.

Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park camping area in New Port Richey.

Veterans Memorial Park's pool in Hudson.

Anclote River Park's beach in Holiday.

Key Vista Park in Holiday.

Robert J. Strickland Memorial Park (Hudson Beach) in Hudson.

Robert K. Rees Memorial Park in New Port Richey.

Moon Lake Park's boat ramp in New Port Richey.
