U.S. 19 was shut down for 45 minutes Monday night when a car struck the rear of an SUV.
The accident occurred about 8:05 p.m. when a Mazda crashed into a Chevrolet Suburban in a southbound lane just north of Alderman Road. U.S. 19 was closed in both directions. Two passengers in the Mazda suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to Bayfront Medical Center by Bayflight. Two passengers in the truck sustained minor injuries and were taken to Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital.
The names of the injured were not released.
