Man arrested, charged in high-speed chase

A man was arrested early Monday, accused of leading law authorities on a high-speed chase. About 9 p.m. Sunday, a Citrus County sheriff's deputy tried to stop a sport utility vehicle on State Road 44 E near the Eden Gardens subdivision. According to an arrest report, the vehicle made a turn without using its turn signal. After the deputy activated the sirens and lights, the SUV turned out of the subdivision and sped toward Sumter County at speeds of about 90 mph, the arrest report stated. After crossing into Sumter County, the driver left the vehicle and ran, the report stated. About 3 a.m. Sunday, the Sumter County Sheriff's Office took Kerry Eugene Tate, 39, 960 NE Eighth Ave., Crystal River, into custody. Tate agreed to be taken to the county line and was taken into custody by Citrus deputies, according to the arrest report. Tate remained in the Citrus County jail Monday with bail set at $5,000 on a charge of fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.
