Bay News 9 was off-the-air for about an hour Monday night after a Palm Harbor car accident temporarily disabled fiber cable lines.
About 40 percent of the station's coverage area was affected, including parts of St. Petersburg, said Melinda Bacon, marketing director at Bay News 9.
Bacon said that although most of the news channels' wires are underground, some are aerial. Both the primary and secondary feeds were affected, she said.
"Whenever you have aerial wires and a car accident, (the fibers) could be affected," she said.
