HD: Relief glitch, gifts, Powell

AIRPORT CLOSED

The main airport in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, was closed for most of the day after a Boeing 737 relief plane hit cows on the runway. Planes couldn't use the airfield until the 737 could be dragged away, although helicopters kept flying.

RESCUE AT SEA

An Indonesian man swept out to sea was found alive, afloat on tree branches and debris about 100 miles from shore. Rizal Sapura, 23, was rescued by a Malaysian cargo ship in the Indian Ocean about 100 miles off Aceh province.

FIGHTING TERROR?

U.S. money and military assistance to tsunami-stricken countries may lessen anti-American sentiment in the Muslim world and help in the fight against terrorism, Secretary of State Colin Powell said as he visited Thailand and Indonesia on Tuesday.

OVER $200-MILLION

U.S.-based relief groups report an overwhelming response from donors, with more than $200-million raised as of Tuesday. The No. 1 recipient, by far, has been the American Red Cross; its pledged tsunami donations as of Tuesday totaled $92-million.
