Mayor Pam Iorio on Wednesday announced that she has created a new department to oversee public works projects throughout the city.
The Department of Contract Administration has been established to pull together contracting activities of the departments of water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation and public works. The new department is charged with standardizing management of contracts, with the goal of keeping projects ranging from sidewalk installation to building construction on track and within budget.
"We had contracting going on in five different departments," said Steve Daignault, administrator for Public Works and Utilities. "Not that any of them were doing it badly, but they were all doing it differently."
David Vaughn has been selected to head the new department. He'll receive a salary of $102,461 a year and report to Daignault. Vaughn has worked for the city since 1986 and currently serves as the contract administrator for the Department of Public Works.
If the Tampa City Council at its meeting today approves the new department, it will be in operation by the end of this month.
