The Florida Guardian Ad Litem Program needs volunteer guardians in Hernando County. Daytime training for volunteer candidates will be Thursday and Jan. 14, 18 and 19 at Wildwood City Hall, 100 N Main St., in Sumter County.

More than 250 children in Hernando County who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect are assigned to the Guardian Ad Litem Program. Volunteer guardians speak on behalf of the best interests of these children before the court and before agencies responsible for the needs of the children and their families.

Classes also will be conducted in Hernando County in March and in Citrus County in June. To volunteer or for information about the program, call (352) 568-6626, or visit the Web site at www.guardianadlitem.org.
