The first local planning meeting for the Step Up, Florida! event will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Citrus County Health Department, 3700 W Sovereign Path, Lecanto.
A subcommittee of the Citrus County Community Health Council is organizing Citrus' role in this statewide event, which is designed to encourage exercise.
Teams from four parts of Florida will embark on trips that eventually will end in Orlando. People from all 67 counties are encouraged to participate. Citrus residents will get a chance to participate on Feb. 23.
Anyone interested in becoming a part of the planning committee, or participating in the event, are encouraged to attend.

Watch for road detours due to Manatee Festival
CRYSTAL RIVER _ A section of Citrus Avenue between U.S. 19 and Crystal Street will be closed from 3 p.m. today to 8 p.m. Sunday for the Manatee Festival.
Signs along the back streets will provide a detour around the closed area.
People attending the festival are asked to park at the Crystal River Mall in the designated areas near Kmart and take the free shuttle to the festival.
Two-way bus transportation will be provided all day during the festival.
The festival hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
