Mario Telfair and Sean Morrison combined for 22 points in the first quarter to boost Lakewood (9-1) past Sarasota Booker (8-4) on Friday.
The Spartans used a pressing defense to shut down Booker in the first quarter and translated it into dunks that led to their first eight baskets.
"We played well and once we started pressing, we made enough steals to get some scores," Lakewood coach Dan Wright said. "We had a little lack of intensity in the second quarter and let them back into the game, but we jumped out in the second half and never looked back."
ADM. FARRAGUT 76, BRAD. ST. STEPHENS 21: The Blue Jackets (8-1) outscored St. Stephens 29-4 in the first quarter and led 49-13 at the half. Four Blue Jackets scored in double-digits. Felipe Schmidt and Thomas Atherton led the Blue Jacket offense with 16 points each. Ed Reed contributed with 13 points and Bernard Scott had 10.
BRADENTON SOUTHEAST 47, OSCEOLA 44: Nick Johnson scored 18 for the Warriors. Anthony Nurse contributed with 10 and Justin Hart added nine from the floor. Brian Alexander of Southeast (6-7) led all scorers with 20. Osceola trailed 11-6 in the first, but outscored Osceola 12-7 to tie the game. Southeast took the lead for good in the third and held off an Osceola comeback.
DUNEDIN 48, COUNTRYSIDE 43: Jamaar Jackson's two short-range jumpers in the last 1:30 sealed the win for Dunedin (5-7, 1-2 district). Saj El-Amin had 16 points for Dunedin and Peter Alexandrou had 18 points for visiting Countryside (4-8, 0-2 district). The teams meet again Thursday at Countryside.
SP CATHOLIC 75, TAMPA CATHOLIC 45: Aaron Holmes scored 23 and Grady Jorgensen and Jock Sanders combined for eight steals by halftime to lead the Barons (10-2, 4-0 district). The Barons have won 32 consecutive district games, dating to 2001. Scott Wallace led Tampa Catholic (9-5, 3-1) with 17 points. Matt Dziagwa had 13 points, including three from 3-point range.
TAMPA PREP 44, INDIAN ROCKS CHR. 40: Johnnie Taveras and Walter Perkins led Tampa Prep with nine points each. The Golden Eagles were led Ryan Culkin (17 points) and Barrett Bailey (10). The Terrapins took advantage of Golden Eagle turnovers late in the fourth as they came back from a four-point deficit.
EAST LAKE 68, PALM HARBOR 54: Ross Stewart scored 16 points to lead East Lake, which took a 23-point lead at halftime as the result of seven 3-pointers. PHU outscored East Lake 23-13 in the fourth quarter. A.J. Tyler had 19 of his game-high points in the second half.
CC CATHOLIC 59, CARDINAL MOONEY 55: The Marauders took advantage of a late foul and Joey DeLuca scored 21 points for CCC. With Sarasota Cardinal Mooney trailing by seven with two minutes left, Blair Weigel hit two 3-pointers to cut the lead to one. Weigel had a game-high 22 and Sean Jackson contributed 13 for Cardinal Mooney.
