Three people were taken to Mease Hospital in Dunedin after a three-vehicle accident that involved a pool supply truck caused a chemical spill Monday. Investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the accident at N Betty Lane and Drew Street near the Clearwater Country Club at press time, said Jeff Camden, public information officer for Clearwater Fire Rescue. However, they do know the pool supply truck was carrying more than a dozen chemicals that spilled into the street and exposed two drivers and one pedestrian. As a precaution, all three were decontaminated with water before being transported to the hospital. The driver of the supply truck suffered minor injuries, Camden said. The Pinellas County Hazardous Material Department, Clearwater Fire Rescue and Largo Fire Rescue all responded to the scene. Monday night, Camden said the cleanup efforts would likely continue for several hours.
Marina fees rising
DUNEDIN _ Commissioners are increasing fees for boaters who rent slips at the Dunedin Municipal Marina. Starting in February, fees will increase by $22.16 per slip. Renters had been paying $72.84 a month. The money will go into an enterprise fund, which pays the operational expenses for the 196-slip marina. Renters also pay a fee based on the square footage of their slips. That fee, which is used to fund large-scale projects such as dredging, remains unchanged.
