Making good use of its height advantage and quickness, Armwood coasted to a 67-25 victory over Robinson on Monday in a non-district game.
Consistently denying passes down low with an effective zone defense, Armwood (10-6) controlled the boards, holding Robinson scoreless in the first quarter while racing to an 18-0 lead. Center Willonna Windham led the Hawks in the quarter with six points.
Senior D'Arre Brown, who led Robinson with eight points, got her team on the board with two layups to open the second quarter. Shannon Powell of Armwood nailed two of her game-high three 3-pointers in the second to increase Armwood's margin to 36-11 at halftime.
"We have a hard time playing the more skilled teams and Armwood is certainly in that category," Robinson coach George DiFederico said. "But I am proud of the way we hung tough, especially in the second half."
Armwood substituted freely throughout but still kept a comfortable lead. Monique Reynard with 14 points and Ashley Armstrong with 13 led Armwood and Powell contributed 11.
"It was a good win for us," Armwood coach Jeff Pafunda said. "We did what we had to do and it feels good to get the victory."
Armwood travels to district foe Blake on Thursday and Robinson (1-10) entertains Sarasota Cardinal Mooney tonight.
