Four Pinellas County high school students have been selected from more than 100,000 applicants nationwide as semifinalists in the 2004-05 Coca-Cola Scholars Program.
Scott Jordan from Calvary Christian High, Safiya Miler from the International Baccalaureate program at St. Petersburg High, Nicole Phillip from Gibbs High, and Peter Rossi from Clearwater Central Catholic are among 2,600 seniors who will vie for $1.8-million in college scholarships that the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will award in the spring.
As semifinalists, the students must submit additional information that will be reviewed in February by a committee of 30 educators from high schools and universities throughout the United States.
They could join 250 finalists who will travel to Atlanta in April to attend the Coca-Cola Scholars weekend, at which point they will be interviewed to determine if they will be a national or regional scholar.
Fifty national scholars will receive $20,000 scholarship awards. Regional scholars will receive $4,000 scholarships.
