Two Hernando County Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed for repair or maintenance work.

The playground at Delta Woods Park, 3400 Deltona Blvd., will be closed today for maintenance. The work is expected to be completed by noon and the playground will be reopened soon afterward.

The Jenkins Creek boat ramp is expected to remain closed for the next few days.

During the weekend, vandals ripped off handrails and damaged one of the docks, officials said.

The parks and recreation staff found the damage Sunday morning, said Brandy Estridge, parks and waterways secretary.

Vandals ripped handrails off the gangways that lead to the floating dock. One of the docks was almost split in half.

"It looks like they were jumping on it," Estridge said.

The cost of the damage was estimated at more than $1,000, Estridge said.

Crews from the parks and recreation department are repairing the damage and are expected to have the work completed by Friday, Estridge said.

The Jenkins Creek boat ramp will remain closed until repairs are complete.

The Bayport and Hernando Beach boat ramps have not been affected and are open.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident, but no one has been arrested, said sheriff's spokeswoman Deputy Donna Black.
