Flu vaccinations available for all high risk classes

The Hernando County Health Department and Maxim Health Systems will be offering flu shots Friday to those considered high risk.

The clinic is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1107 Commercial Way.

Due to the nationwide shortage of influenza vaccine, all participants will be required to fill out a questionnaire to show they meet the definition of high risk.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines high risk as anyone 50 years of age or older, anyone with chronic medical problems, residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities, health care workers with direct patient care, women who expect to be pregnant during flu season, children 6 months to 18 years of age on long-term aspirin treatment and out-of-home caregivers or household contacts for children less than 6 months old.
