DYNAMITE FOUND IN GARAGE

(ran North, South editions)

The Tampa Bay Regional Bomb Squad used a remote controlled device to remove about 10 sticks of dynamite from a house in downtown New Port Richey on Thursday at the corner of Nebraska Avenue and Adams Street. Police evacuated several properties adjacent to the home and blocked streets for hours while the bomb squad worked. Roads then were cleared as police and sheriff's deputies escorted the bomb squad to the county landfill on Hays Road, where the dynamite was detonated safely. A woman found the explosives in her garage while renovating it; she said they must have been left there 15 years ago by her husband, who died six years ago. The couple had used such explosives to clear land, police said.
