A HIGHWAYMAN'S HISTORY LESSON

An original Florida Highwayman, R.L. Lewis Jr., exhibited his art, lectured and gave a painting demonstration Tuesday in the University of South Florida's St. Petersburg Campus Activity Center. The Highwaymen, so-called because they often sold their works on the roadside, were a group of young African-American artists, specializing in Florida landscapes, who were most active in the 1950s and '60s.
