New Port Richey driver dies after car overturns; passenger hurt

A 23-year-old man died early Sunday after being ejected from the car he was driving, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Shane R. Graham of 3292 Piccard Loop, New Port Richey, was driving a 2005 Hyundai about 6 a.m. on State Road 60, just south of Plant City, when he lost control of the vehicle and it flipped. He died at the scene of the accident, east of Mud Lake Road.

A passenger in the car, Garrett B. Heflin, 25, was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where a hospital spokeswoman said he was listed in serious condition.

Graham was approaching the driveway at 1920 SR 60 when for an unknown reason, troopers said, his car became airborne.

It overturned "in a cartwheel manner several times" and both men were ejected. Once the car came to a stop, it burst into flames. Firefighters arrived to extinguish the fire, and Heflin was transported by air to Tampa General.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
