Two Hernando County elementary schools will start the 2006-07 school year under new leadership.
Superintendent Wendy Tellone announced this week that Debi Vermette, who currently works as assistant principal at Pine Grove Elementary, will take over for Moton Elementary principal Donny Moen, who is retiring at the end of the school year. Eastside Elementary assistant principal Maria Rybka will become principal at that school as John Finney retires.
Both women are longtime educators in the Hernando school system.
Vermette, 36, began teaching at Springstead High School in 1995 and later taught at Westside Elementary School before becoming an exceptional student education resource teacher at Fox Chapel Middle School in 2001. She was named assistant principal at Pine Grove in 2003.
"It is an incredible opportunity to work with such a wonderful staff as Moton Elementary School, a school that has shown growth and opportunity for all students," Vermette said in a statement.
Rybka, 38, grew up in Hernando County and attended West Hernando Middle School and Springstead High School. She taught at Westside Elementary before assuming her role as assistant principal at Eastside Elementary.
"It's a great opportunity to work with this wonderful staff and continue with those things we've implemented, to see through those things we've already started," Rybka said in a statement.
