Man used Web to scam ticket buyers, police say

A 40-year-old Indian Shores man was arrested Tuesday after authorities said he sold six people concert and sporting tickets on the Internet, then never sent them the tickets.

Matthew D. Morgan of 20222 Gulf Blvd. was arrested on six counts of scheming to defraud and one count of grand theft.

The Indian Shores Police Department began investigating Morgan several months ago after receiving complaints that he was running a scam on craigslist.org, a popular Internet site where people sell everything from homes to boats to concert tickets.

Police said Morgan advertised tickets to sports games and musical events, including Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2 concerts.

People from California, Illinois and Connecticut bought the tickets, sent Morgan money, then never received the tickets, police said. Morgan, in fact, never had the tickets, said investigator Jason Routzahn of the Indian Shores police.

Morgan's criminal history includes convictions for larceny and organized fraud in Miami in 2004. He remained in the Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday on $100,000 bail.
