Hit-and-run driver kills Tulsa job seeker

Kelly Johme Ballard never liked to drive. Even at 36, he preferred to bike, walk or hitch a ride. But Sunday morning, his decision to walk proved fatal.

Ballard, a Tulsa, Okla., resident said to be in Florida on a job interview, was killed in a hit-and-run accident. His body was found on the 8830 block of Nundy Avenue in Gibsonton about 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

Hillsborough sheriff's deputies were searching for a white van, possibly a 1984 or 1985 Chevrolet Astro, possibly two-toned, which they think was involved.

The vehicle may be damaged on the right windshield and grill.

"We would like to see whoever hit him found," his sister-in-law Kristie Ballard said.

Kelly Ballard told his family he was headed to the Tampa area to interview for a job erecting and dismantling carnival equipment.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (813) 247-8200.
