A 44-year-old Seminole man was taken to Tampa General Hospital on Tuesday morning with severe burn injuries after his body caught on fire while he was in bed.

David Schorsch, of 8839 Magnolia Place, was listed in critical condition.

Authorities are still investigating but said that smoking in bed could have caused the fire.

Seminole assistant fire chief Mike Wallace said Schorsch's wife and teenage son put out the fire, which seriously burned the lower half of Schorsch's body.

There was no significant damage to the home.
