Clearwater dentist Donald Fox was asleep early Thursday morning when his bedroom phone jarred him awake. It was the police calling at 2 a.m. Bad news: Fifteen minutes earlier, a white sport utility vehicle plowed through his dental office at 915 Court St., Fox was told. He might want to check the damage. "I didn't even believe it at first," Fox said. "I had to call the police back." But sure enough, there were tire tracks that cut across the front yard of the dentist's office. The SUV just missed the main building where Fox sees patients and instead plowed into a side building where patient records and orthodontia supplies are kept. The crash demolished a concrete wall, three trees and made the storage area uninhabitable until repairs are made. About the cost of the damage, Fox said, "I don't even want to guess." Clearwater police said they made an arrest in the accident, but no other information was available Thursday night. Fox stayed at the scene until 5 a.m. On Thursday, about 30 people had their appointments canceled, he said. "We couldn't see the little kids this morning to get their braces adjusted."
